In Halifax, the death of a woman in her 90s living in a nursing home is being ruled as a homicide. The medical examination rules that her death came from injuries from another resident.
Halifax police are investigating a homicide involving a woman in her 90s.
Halifax Regional Police issued a release around noontime Tuesday regarding the death of a 92-year-old woman on Friday night at Arborstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home on Purcell’s Cove Road.
The province’s Medical Examiner contacted police about the death, and an autopsy was conducted.
It concludes the woman’s death was from “complications relating to injuries received during an incident with another resident on Jan. 7, and is considered a homicide,” a HRP release states.
Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said they don’t know the full details of what happened, only that “the deceased was injured and those injuries led to complications which led to her death.”
“Given the circumstances around the death and circumstances of the two people involved in the incident, there is a question already whether or not criminal culpability exists,” he said.
